Arla wins World Dairy Innovation Award with its commitment to animal welfare and responsible use of antibiotics

Arla has been awarded Best Environmental Sustainability Initiative, at the World Dairy Innovation Awards 2016 (June 2016, London) in recognition of its commitment to animal welfare and responsible use of antibiotics.

The award also acknowledges Arla’s recent selective dry cow therapy workshops for Arla farmers which focused on minimising the risk of infection in the run up to calving, particularly mastitis, and reducing the requirement for antibiotics.

Vicky Porteus, Arla’s senior manager for quality, assurance and sustainability, said the award was a great achievement: “The roll out of Arlagården and the subsequent ongoing focus on selective dry cow therapy has been a huge team effort.

“From the seminars which we held for over 300 vets to the 1,750 farmers who attended the recent workshops everyone has worked together to try and ensure that antibiotics aren’t used preventively. Arla and its farmer owners are leading the way in the UK with this initiative. The award recognises that and the positive work that is ongoing by Arla in this important area.”
